Synopsis
A sister is kidnapped on her 16th Birthday.
1987 Directed by Howard Avedis
A sister is kidnapped on her 16th Birthday.
Like someone pitched a made-for-TV cop comedy version of Paul Schrader's Hardcore. Tone of this thing can be summed up by the scene where Naughton goes undercover as a porn peddler called "Sean Language" who wears banana-yellow pants that scream "how do you do fellow criminals". At one point Naughton's pet monkey walks in on 90% naked Barbara Crampton leaving this very much stuck in a state of "who was this made for?" Pretty entertaining tho!
A film where David Naughton plays a cop who owns a pet chimpanzee, goes undercover as a wannabe porn star with the girl he is suppose to be protecting and gets his penis out to not blow his cover.
Phenomenal. Deserves the same consideration as other gritty Hollywood cinescum like Vice Squad, Savage Streets, and Angel. It's definitely more in line with Angel and Avenging Angel, with its unlikely tonal jumps into light-heartedness. The letterboxd synopsis reads “A sister is kidnapped on her 16th birthday.” As awkward as it is to describe the character as “a sister”, it’s pretty accurate. Barbara Crampton is the star, who reminds us in every scene that she needs to find her sister, who has been kidnapped by sleazy hitmen pornographers. They get the sister addicted to heroin and get her ready to star in some kind of pornographic biblical dance film. David Naughton plays the cop who helps Crampton track down the people…
SO I have this pitch, let me run it by you.
There's two sisters, right? One gets kidnapped, she's 16, and she gets dragged into the sex trade and forced to perform in porno movies by a Hefner-esque mogul. Ok? Got it?
Then - her sister goes to the cops, but begins to fall for the cop that takes on the case - and he has a pet monkey who's really cute. They fall in love, fool around and try to crash the porno mansion by pretending to be budding adult movie stars.
Oh - and I want the actors to wear a lot of yellow.
Cast someone like Chuck Napier and Colonel Decker from the A-Team. Then maybe that chick from Re-Animator and the dude from American Werewolf! Yeah? Hit or what?
It's gonna be HUGE!
Kidnapped is either Andy Sidaris doing a Michael Winner film, or Michael Winner doing an Andy Sidaris film.
Either way, this is full on bananas in the best way, if utterly exploitative & occasionally mean spirited.
One of the best 'good guy with a chimp' films of the eighties.
Barbara Crampton, that guy out of Trancers, a hugely unrealistic portrail of heroin addiction, some kind of weird soft porn gymnastics and a cop who has to flash his dick to save the girl. Rewarding trash.
