women.. they have minds as well as hearts as well as souls, they've got ambition and they've got talent as well as just beauty and im so sick of people saying that love is all a woman is fit for im so SICK of it!
This is such an important film. I hope everyone gets a chance to watch this.
I think it isn't bad to live like this too; as someone's mom, as someone's wife. I feel happy sometimes. But sometimes, I feel like I'm trapped inside.
Jung Yu Mi gave a really beautiful performance paired with a strong script and direction. This film deals with a lot of issues that women face in today's society and also does it with so much sincerity.
Fathers are telling daughters that it's their fault for wearing short skirts. Office ladies dealing with hidden cameras in toilet. Mothers quitting work to take care of their children. What's frustrating is that these situations have become such a norm…
It's a story of all ordinary Korean female. I cried because it's a life of my mom, myself and my sister.
this just screamed feminism, misogyny, sexism, mental health & superiority complex incessantly for approximately two hrs straight.
the plot really bounds sociocultural expectations for women in a patriarchal society through a struggling mother's perspective.
i love it—a must watch; irene really has taste.
Everyone ought to watch the film that's "notorious" for triggering cultural tensions and couples to split in South Korea (tensions initially ignited by the book the film's based on).
Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 provides an unapologetic and necessary critique of the everyday othering and casual sexism women endure. This film does a great job of intimately exploring the suffocating patriarchal social order that most people (especially men) uncritically accept despite these oppressive norms causing many Korean women to feel and be mentally, emotionally, and socially trapped.
The above-referenced commentary is mainly communicated through the everyday experiences (from childhood to adulthood) of the "everywoman" protagonist Ji-young, a once aspiring career woman who's essentially pressured into becoming a stay-at-home mother due to…
Kim Ji-Young…
The world and everyone need to be extra extra kinder to women cos of how society built expectations from them since the beginning. Some people/men become too comfortable normalizing how much women, being wives and mothers, can sacrifice for their loved ones that they lose their identity, forget what they want, and experience depression. Just being a woman is already too hard, so please be kinder, more understanding, approach mental health issues sensitively, and treat us equally.
I can’t review this one guys. My spouse experienced postpartum depression for several months after the birth of our first child, during a time I was extremely busy because I was in school and working and couldn’t offer the level of emotional support she needed, where we didnt have family very close by for help, which was a period that was tremendously stressful for us both, and this movie hit way too fucking close to home. Both of us just kept looking at each other with painful smiles throughout because it just kept evoking the same shared memories. She’s no longer trapped at home, I’m more emotionally available, we both get far more quality time with our kids, our families…
