While you are reading this review, a man will knock on your door giving you an envelope with a key in it. Tomorrow you will go to a train station and use this key to open the empty locker it belongs to at exactly 13.02, after which you will be bothered by six aggressive mimes and a small monkey. After this, you will go home, call your mother at 14.23 and cry about it. How do I know this? I planned this two years ago.
If you believe this, you'll give this film a five star rating. If not, you'll watch a completely forgettable, though decently made, action film.
Absolutely hilarious, DEATH WISH meets ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES, Bronson's reactionary fury replaced with Gerry Butler's ever-evident glee at playing psychos and Vincent Price's boobytrap elegance swapped out for gorgeous industrial Philly grunge. Delightful.
gleefully depraved, like Death Wish updated for the torture porn era, my man gerry b chews his way to the earth's core with this biblically righteous, psycho supervillain routine. "this is von clausewitz shit."
Probably would have had more emotional impact, if you had seen the family more than 10 seconds.
this movie is like "im NOT CHILL" for awhile, then, explains to why you missed parts of not being chill!
this is the "smoke an entire carton of cigarettes so you throw up and never want to see one again" for my addiction to mainstream american 2000s cinema
When I think of one man outwitting Philadelphia's municipal leadership, the police force, and the criminal justice system, Gerard Butler doesn't really come to mind. However, in the opening scene Butler is introduced soldering components to motherboards and sticks of RAM. This is all we need to know. Clearly with a home-workshop and DIY A+ computer-tech skillset well established, it makes perfect sense that Butler has all the background needed to outsmart and take down the corrupt, heartless justice-free justic system. When his wife and daughter are attacked and killed and the legal system provides little retribution, it's time for Butler to go Evil-McGyver and kill cops, lawyers, judges, and whomevers to show what justice really looks like.

A Death Wish meets Se7en action crime/revenge thriller where you have no one to root for, Law Abiding Citizen, while well-acted and well-shot, is the ridiculous film that thinks it's more clever than it really is, trying to make a statement about the corruption of the justice system but failing to acknowledge that the person supposedly exposing it is equally in the wrong.
This is probably one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen.
I can definitely see where Now You See Me got its inspiration from.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun with it, though.
I love characters that are just impossibly good at what they do. This guy is just that. Although we don't get to see exactly how, which makes it a little unbelievable.
I'm going to talk about it on our next Last 10 Top 10 on the podcast » Cinereelists.com «
Stupid as hell, but there are worse ways you could spend a few hours! Things get very crazy at many different points (t-bone steak!), and it’s always nice to watch Butler play these insane killing machines.
It's really over-the-top, but that can still be enjoyable. Gerard Butler's character is more scheming than your average Bond villain, only he doesn't have to contend with the world's greatest spy. Just Jamie Foxx.
This was just a dumb movie with an unlikeable pair of lead characters. Anyone who sympathises with Gerard Butler's character after an hour in is not to be trusted with children.
I'm just getting started. I'm gonna pull the whole thing down. I gonna bring the whole fuckin' diseased corrupt temple down on your heads. It's gonna be Biblical.
LOL this film is ludicrous and absolutely nothing like the film i thought it was going to be. thought it would be kinda fincher-esque but nope not in the slightest
its like when u were a kid and would reply to someone with “why?” about 10x in a row tryna be smart. this is the physical manifestation of that why.

Although this does not utilize the full capabilities of its premise, there are some good moments that make this worth the watch, mainly the two leads.
