i'm really floored by how good this was... i wasn't expecting something this striking. so beautiful in the most simplistic ways. natural, and quiet. love shown in glances more often than actions (similar to movies like moonlight, and carol) the sting of heartbreak in the awkward spaces in between: casual conversations, group interactions. the tragedy of love when it exists, but isn't acknowledged. the stomach churning reality of it. pure longing. i don't usually write serious reviews but this truly deserved more than a one liner from me. my heart hurts

I love this movie.
Mindy and Sarah have that type of relationship where they don't need words because they speak in a language made out of glances and touches. This movie is about the fear of ruining a meaningful friendship and losing an important person, about love that is so complicated that one might not even try because the outcome seems to be so obvious.
I find it fascinating how the two of them see marriage as an escape, as a way of avoiding and confronting their real feelings. I love how Mindy's mom seems to have known Sarah ever since she was a teenager and how her opinion on Mindy's fiancé…
do you sometimes think about how they've probably fallen in love with each other way before the beginning of the movie.... there's that threesome story of Sarah chickening out and when they meet for the first time in the movie Mindy says that it's been a while they haven't seen each other, just like the three years gap in the middle of the movie........ what if their life had just been a constant stream of missed opportunities and this movie is only a part of it........
