This movie is flawed in so many ways. There's a sequence that was clearly only inserted into the film as a way to get a certain actor into the movie. The drama of the climax is undercut by a crazy obvious solution that should have been everybody's first thought. The very first accent/voice you hear in the movie, although purposeful (I know, I know, Dick Van Dyke did it) does NOT inspire confidence.
All of that said, this is currently my favorite movie of the year.

This is an extremely faithful sequel: It’s long and kind of boring and intermittently dazzling with beautiful animation and clever dances, and then it goes back to being a children’s movie about the inner workings of the British banking industry. Kids love banking subplots!

Vejo apenas dois erros nesse filme: fazer um vilão (e bem vilanesco cartunizado) e a falta de motivo para o reaparecimento da Mary Poppins (senti falta da procura pela babá)
A atuação da Emily Blunt tá bem boa, mas é muito difícil vir depois da majestosa Julie Andrews, então não dá mesmo pra ser a Mary Poppins praticamente perfeita, em todos os sentidos
Ainda assim foi um filme lindo e a aparição do Dick Van Dyke no final me surpreendeu demais, fiquei extremamente feliz, o filme ganhou muitos pontinhos só por isso.
Lin-Manuel Miranda merece muitas palmas porque a atuação dele está maravilhosa.

Notably, the animated scene, the details in the costumes were so beautiful and original.
And I loved the visual look of the film.
Not the biggest fan of the songs.
I really enjoyed Emily Blunt’s performance, most of the other performances were done well, notably Meryl Streep’s performance was positively surprising.

Mary Poppins Returns was never going to be as good as Mary Poppins and there is no shame in that.
My expectations for this film we’re both high and low in a way. Mary Poppins is one of the greatest musicals of all time and Julie Andrews is a phenomenal singer and actress. Naturally the sequel should have high standards. At the same time how could Mary Poppins Returns possibly rise to the level of its predecessor?
Emily Blunt accepted an improbable challenge and she did a splendid job bringing the character back to life. The musical numbers will not go down as classics, but they stay true to the Mary Poppins style and are worth listening to on any Disney or musical playlist.

Yes it may feel a bit derivative but there was a lot if love and care put into making this feel like the original Mary Poppins and not a cheap ripoff.
Emily Blunt is great in the titular role and the cast in general is really strong. Emily Mortimer in particular was perfect casting as she looks a good deal like the young actress who played Jane (Karen Dotrice).
And it's impossible to live up to the Sherman Brothers but Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman put together a really great soundtrack.
