Little did we know that Zac Efron (playing autistic in this because apparently that's a rite of passage for podcasts I do) would, nine years later, basically play the handyman role from this movie in The Lucky One.
And just like that, I've seen every Zac Efron movie. What a time to be alive!
Earlier this year the amazing BrisFrankie very kindly sent me the Zac Efron film Miracle Run because I couldn't seem to find it anywhere. I decided my Birthday was a fitting occasion to watch this, and I'll be honest - I wasn't expecting great things. But actually I ended up quite enjoying this. Sure it's not great or anything, but it's perfectly fine and so so much better than I was anticipating. Mary-Louise Parker does an admirable job pretty much carrying this film. Although listed as Miracle Run here on letterboxd, the DVD I own is titled The Unexpected Journey. Also, I made Cat watch this with me, what with it being my Birthday and all, and she also thought the film was surprisingly okay.
why does this weird lifetime movie with autistic zac efron actually kinda hold up?? why is the acting lowkey actually kinda good?????
it does feel a little weird watching it retrospectively because like...... we should just cast autistic people but i guess that's 2004 for you idk
No,just no there are times where you just need to stop these movies are toxic as hell,they portray autism like if it was cancer and the people that have it are retarded and can't think for themselves and if they do everything will say it will be wrong, usa may be more liberal in things like LGBT(Compared to let's say India or Russia) or in their way to women's rights but how they treat autistic people?Just fucking No when Spain is able to be more open minded on to that matter even if it wasn't diagnosed here until 2002 that says a lot.And these movies are insanely toxic because they portray the parents like if they were the biggest superheroes…

Went into this movie without knowing anything. I must say it was a beautiful film about a real life story. Zac played his role very good, and that while he was so young back then. Good movie!
I went in not really knowing anything about the film other than the fact Zac Efron is in it, which is really more than enough to compel Liam and me to watch a movie. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and thought all the performances were pretty decent, especially Mary-Louise Parker and Aidan Quinn. It's nothing special, but it's a nice enough watch.

I was surprised at how good this movie was. It wasn't great but for a made-for-tv movie, it was better than the other one I have watched. The storyline was good and plausible. I enjoyed watching.

For a Lifetime movie that hits all the required inspirational true story checkpoints, this was actually decent. Not a whole lot of Forrest running until towards the end. But there was more character development for the autistic twins than one would expect. Schmaltz and sensationalism creep in a bit but at least the approach to autism is respectful enough to hold up. Good acting from everyone here, even the child actors! The likable mother goes a long way in making this watchable. Helps that she's played by Mary-Louise Parker. The movie briefly turns into a meme when Zac Efron shows up but that's more because of The Internet than him. Funny moments are intentional while the overall story is feel-good…
