El maestro del dinero, 凶钱直击, 华尔街绑架直击, マネーモンスター
The dismissive "eh, it's okay" reviews aren't giving this film nearly enough credit, either for its tight action (reminiscent of Inside Man) or its bleak sense of humor and awareness of the media environment and people's cynicism around corporate America. Money Monster has a lot of surprises — for God's sake, see it before a trailer gives half the movie away — and the biggest one is how subtle it is about getting across some of its more heartfelt points, while only soft-selling the more conventional and expected ones. Shrugging off this film because the "Wall Street is bad" message isn't convincing enough is missing the fact that that isn't the actual message at all. This film takes some cues from Network and Dog Day Afternoon, and it's better viewed from that angle than as a sincere, conventional hostage drama.
I'm sure one day a Quant will point out the Glitch in my Algo.

i'm sure it's just a result of how dire the current studio model of filmmaking is at the moment but this slick, mid-budget, star-driven, r-rated schlock felt like a total breath of fresh air... if this came out in 1996 it'd have been an oscar contender
Capitalism: A Horror Story
Would it be a bit of a stretch to call Money Monster this year's The Big Short? Although not necessarily as good as the latter, Jodie Foster's latest film certainly has a lot to say in the short time it is given, yet doesn't do a whole lot to make any real call to these issues. These real world issues are lightly scrutinized, yet the film seems more focused on resolving the fabricated concepts rather than promoting a clear message. Perhaps it is because this has been going on for so long now that everyone (even Foster and the writers) are somewhat desensitized to just how big of a crisis we are headed into. You can wave…
This movie was honestly really good but all I could think about for a lot of it was how during the trailers there was a preview of Hell or High Water and my dad whispered to me while gesturing to Chris pine "There's Star Trek" and I was like yes dad that is indeed Star Trek star Chris Pine or Captain Kirk good observation Michael
Something of a child's perspective on Wall Street injustice, Money Monster over-simplifies an enormously complex situation. Foster's directorial debut panders to those who think in black and white, despite the overwhelming (and admittedly unfair) gray area in banking ethics. Without spiraling off into a rant, my fundamental issue with this film is that it simply isn't relevant. It's diagnosis of the "crimes" of Wall Street are outdated and again, simplistic. This "victim" of unjust financial acts deserves out sympathy, despite his threatening to murder a man who simply participates in the system? Are George Clooney, Jodie Foster and Julia Roberts really suited to critique conciliatory television? If you go into Money Monster hoping to satisfy your hatred for rich guys,…
(john mulaney voice) you know, i read that this week over 2 days the dow jones dropped 929 points, and i can't tell you how frustrating it is to not know what that means. it's getting embarrassing. when there's too much financial news, it gets real embarrassing. at this point when i'm watching CNBC, i almost feel like i'm a kid again and i'm listening to my parents talk about me in front of me. and i don't know what the fuck they're saying but i know it's gonna affect me. you know, they're like "i think it's time for B-E-D!" and i'm like "i don't know what this B-E-D shit is.........i just know i'm gonna get screwed."
Is Money Monster flawed and obvious, yes
Is Money Monster a fun popcorn watch, yes
Is Jody Foster a great director, no .. but she's getting better, and I think we'll see greatness from her.
Money Monster is able to carry it's short plot and make for a decent and thought-provoking movie. Julia Roberts and in particular Jack O'Connell (This guy needs to get more roles, he's seriously fantastic) give great performances, the movie looks good, and it's quite intense and nerve racking.
Pretty solid. The first act is pretty mediocre but it get's better as it continues and the third act had me on the edge of my seat. Well done Jodie Foster, it could've been much better but it does enough with it's timely premise to recommend
who the fuck greenlights this shit?
Clooney is the King Of Dollar Tree,Thrift Store movies
DIRECTED BY JODIE FOSTER??? Fire. Even though this movie doesn’t deserve 5 stars, it gets 5 stars. I wish it was a documentary. Clooney and Roberts are like CO and 2. This is the longest review I’ve left on Letterboxd, that should say something. Put it in the same playlist as The Big Short and The Other Guys.
This is a star studded cast. It’s a great idea for a movie with a little ode to “ network”. It’s execution is meh. Feel like it leaves something to be desired but the acting was still good and the movie still is kinda entertaining. Still went under what I expected
59/100
Maybe I was just in a bad mood today but I actually think I liked this better the first time I watched it.
A straight-forward, but maybe a bit too run-of-the-mill thriller with a relevant message which is oversimplified in order to make the plot and its conveniences work. Some sequences flow better than others and the same inconsistency goes for the main tension which loses its grip during the middle. Still, a competently made film with enough entertainment value to stay with it.
Good movie- acting’s was good
Suspense every moment
It was a process to find the truth, find the fraud, but executed the wrong way by Kyle. He helped expose the truth but at what cost !! 😧
- he washed his hands without soap
- the aesthetic is too slick and generic
- omg was that Griz from 30 Rock?
- like I’m 100% behind Kyle as long as he lets the camera men go
- the evil boss looks like an old, broke John Cena
- capitalism is a disease
- I never got bored and i think their heart was in the right place
- fake bomb was predictable, but still cool
- “I’m sorry I’m sorry” I’m the Boston accent
- a pig in a prom dress sounds cute
- similar vibe to “Phonebooth”
- yay collective action!
- the boss explaining himself dialogue is interesting, but the “it was wrong” moment was soooo dumb
- ACAB
- should’ve ended the film on shot of the dude playing foosball to preserve the lack of closure and that everyone moved on without anything changing
- also eat the rich, yes
i have to admit... i didn't realize that jodie foster directed this the first time i watched it so to watch it again and know that information is kinda cool. also it's a decently entertaining film and i feel like i'd watch it again
