Also WOW this shit is based on a real psychology experiment involving monkeys having a fake mother monkey-type post/doll thing wherein the monkeys became extremely dependent on them emotionally and physically. They pretty accurately recreated exactly how the doll and testing environment looked. All of this realistic attention to detail of course applied to the stop motion monkey who takes center stage. The animation, while clearly low budget, is fantastic and perfectly evocative of what the monkey is feeling.

It's......honestly just horribly sad too. And goddamn it, it's so we'll executed that it kinda destroyed me a bit. Highly recommended.

Brilliant technical achievement in combining live-action with animation and also a brilliant achievement in monkeys.

I had forgotten about the lab experiments of Harry Harlow for years since studying them in college: this resurrected that memory. I recommend heading to Wikipedia to read his entry after viewing this. Anyway, this was affecting and traumatic, even with what little I remembered from school.

This one was very special for me. Straight up my alley, and contains a lot of what I love about film-making. Really enjoyed it!
