this movie hits different more than a decade since watching it for the first time.
to surmise: a whimsical tale with themes of loss & purpose, carried by performances from Hoffman to Portman to Bateman, tiiiied together with a fantastical yearning Alexandre Desplat score that invokes the soul?? yes, always yes.
reminiscent of Amélie, Hugo, Mary Poppins, Nanny McPhee, & a stew of Roald Dahl. (i wish i remembered this movie when i wrote my thesis on only children & imagination!)
