this is the worst found footage movie of all time. could not be more apparent that the script was found in some studio guy's desk drawer and they decided to refit it not just as a paranormal activity reboot (?) but as a found footage movie in general. it bears absolutely no resemblance to the rest of the films in the series. there's not even a token reference to the basic "we're setting up the camera at night" structure that defines the entire franchise. the first movie's tagline was "what happens when you sleep?" and that so perfectly summed up the film's approach to horror, the idea of something observing and interacting with our lives and our spaces in our…

I love found footage movies. I love the paranormal activity franchise. And I love cult movies. I’m not sure why I didn’t love this movie, though.
Maybe it’s the several cheap fake scares that aren’t scary or even clever. Or maybe it’s that it took a whole hour for the movie to get the least bit interesting. The last 20 minutes where everything goes to shit are what I love about the franchise and they were pretty thrilling in this one, I have to say.
I really enjoyed this. Totally bonkers but a lot of fun. Plenty of creepy moments. I loved the whole Amish spin. This movie also looked like a million bucks. I was amazed at how beautiful all the shots were looking. There really was no expense spared. All that beautiful snow had me dreaming of a white Christmas in between all the carnage.

just like Wrong Turn, this tried to do something new and different with the franchise. and just like Wrong Turn, this will have it's fans and it's haters
for me it felt like it tried to squeeze something from The Descent and also REC into it which okay i guess? since it has no connection to the original franchise - or at least minimal - it can do whatever it wants i suppose
i was preparing for the worst, turns out it wasn't that bad after all. just wish it wasn't marketed as PA movie because changing a thing or two here and there, it could have been decent standalone watch
The worst jumpscare in this film was when they acknowledged the pandemic... please let me have my escapism thank you!
But seriously this movie... well I'm conflicted. It definitely has its moments but [screams] there's some incredibly unignorable issues I have here.
The most glaringly obvious is the "found footage" so lets break that down.
Why was there added jumpscare noises?
It would make a little more sense if the whole thing felt like someone would've actually found the footage and tried to turn it into a horror movie, but the way things turn out I don't think that would be the case? So, there's that.
