Relic is a movie utilizing metaphors about dementia and psychosis saturating together like the oozing of ink staining the paper of senility. The relationship between granny, daughter, and granddaughter was so disunited that I could not connect with any of their feelings and fears.
If you like a dark film where there’s a lot of fumbling in the dark, plenty of strange noises, dry wall banging in the last 20 minutes, and lots of aimless running or crawling through hallways and passages, then this is for you.
I’ve seen lots of slow-burning movies that gave me a reward for my patience, but this movie didn’t deliver anything on my plate. If you dig stories told in visual metaphors you might find entertainment in this.
I do have to give credit to the score. It’s the heartbeat of the entire movie.
