Scheherazade has important subject matter, but is kind of cornily done. The final scene is lovely. It ties our protagonist into the subject matter and leaves us in a powerful silence. However, throughout the rest of the film, our protagonist just smiles a lot through everyone else's painful stories and acts like she's on their side, but doesn't understand how her privilege separates her.
The film follows the protagonist, a talk show host, as she discusses "women's issues" with three different women on her show. I thought the second woman's story was an odd one to include because even though she suffered due to society's expectations of men versus women, she killed somebody and thus her story becomes something more…

I’ve found some of Nasrallah’s films to be a bit overly melodramatic, but it feels just right for this one. Feels like a popular film that is quite clearly a shot against the patriarchy and corruption in Egypt.
This movie is really held back by its cinematography which to be frank is often ugly. It's also a bit strangely paced suffering from a slow start and with one of the three stories (four counting the frame story) feeling like the length of a feature in and of itself. Still those criticisms aside the stories themselves are all pretty interesting and do adequately cover what the film sets out to, that is the story of oppressed women (which seems like all women?) in Egypt. An ok film at the end of the day that could have been better.
Three stories told via interview with a talk show host in Cairo about how men are the worst. Gotta say, I dug it.
