Does an excellent job of walking a very thin tonal tightrope when it could have very easily taken a more concretely comedic or melancholy tack. Try to go in cold.
It’s a very good comedy, a pretty good drama, and certainly a memorable Christmas movie…and that’s all I’ll say for now. I don’t know how much or how little the marketing gives away, but I don’t want to be the one. What I do know is this: we do not appreciate Keira Knightley nearly enough, and the supremely cursed energy she lends Silent Night is half the reason to see it. If we’re being honest, the atomic Michael Bublé reprise is the other half.
there’s nothing like dancing and belting “i’m gonna live forever” at your family christmas party when you’re all about to die 🥰
Was ready for an enjoyable dark Christmas horror/comedy.
What I did not expect was a movie akin to Melancholia.
This movie FUCKED me up.
Literally what was the point of all that. WHAT WAS THE POINT?!?
Great cast, but out of the two movies about posh British people having Christmas dinner and trying not to fall apart, I prefer the one with Kristen Stewart running through a field.
Lol WHAT this is so stupid ahahahahaha every single British person watching the BBC over Christmas is going to hate it I can’t actually wait
Decent dark comedy with existential horror. It's funny, bleak, depressing and does a great job hiding what it’s actually about with its gleefulness. There are some good heart shattering moments too. Although I feel like sometimes it bites more than it can chew, I really like how it treats all these issues in a comical way. Please go in blind, trust me it's nothing like you expect!
having a party to pretend everything is fine just as the apocalypse is approaching — sounds about right
Kiera Knightley could do anything to me and I’d thank her, no questions asked. Yes I will take the pill. Yes I will cook Christmas dinner. Yes I will call you Mrs. Darcy. Yes.
What am I supposed to even say? This movie is incredibly difficult to talk about without spoiling it, and I do not envy whoever had to market this film because WOWZA- ummm, yeah a lot of people are going to hate this. Like, this is going to be a divisive film and that’s okay. I thought it was quite impressive. I can’t think of the last time I watched such a unique film that managed to make me laugh ( a lot) and cry (a lot). Please go into this blind (and yes, this is a huge recommendation.).
SILENT NIGHT is like if Melancholia was a British Christmas movie. Super bleak. The dark comedy & hopelessness of the story pushes the characters to reveal outrageous, depressing & highly emotional truths for the actors to sink their teeth into. Roman Griffin Davis amazes again! This is not going to be for everyone but I was constantly surprised by how fucked up it became by the third act. Also the new Michael Buble song is a banger and I need it in my music rotation NOW! A bold statement of a directorial debut from Camille Griffin.
