Peter: „Naja also..“
A far cry from the previous four movies that Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg have made together (the two men Voltron-ing into a single creative entity that will henceforth be referred to as “WahlBerg”), the hilariously titled “Spenser Confidential” is a high-testosterone action thriller about a red-blooded, blue-collared, perpetually open-mouthed American patriot who decides to take matters into his own hands when some bad guys besmirch the good name of these United States. Just kidding — the only significant difference between this chaotic dreck and the likes of “Mile 22” is that “Spenser Confidential” is going straight to Netflix (and, one must assume, the only reason it’s going straight to Netflix is that Barstool Sports doesn’t have its own…
Absolutely the laziest, cheapest-looking, most ineffectual backdoor TV pilot disguised as a franchise starter since JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT.
Watching Winston Duke play second fiddle to Wahlberg is like watching Hendrix play keyboards in Nickelback.

SYNOPSIS: When two Boston police officers are murdered, ex-cop Spenser teams up with his no-nonsense roommate, Hawk, to take down criminals.
I present to you episode 5 of Wahl-Berg's Greatest Hits! Minus the greatest hits part.
What started off as a very potent one-two punch in Hollywood with hits like 'Lone Survivor', 'Deepwater Horizon' and even 'Patriots Day' has only continued to spiral downward following 'Mile 22' and now this.
I have never even heard of the 80s T.V. series that apparently this film is based on, but it definitely didn't do it any justice judging…
Just the right kind of stupid I needed for a while ... then it got more stupid.
Wow, thank you Netflix. I really needed you to put the word PRISON on screen in massive white block letters, after 30 establishing shots of the prison. I wouldn't have been able to figure that one out on my own.
This was an incompetent mess from start to finish. And worst of all, it's boring.
unfamiliar with the source material and maybe it's not fair to judge on this alone but with none of the intensity or action of a jack reacher or the guilt or moral considerations of a matthew scudder this is just a really cheap and boring paperback detective conspiracy for dads whose concept of boston begins and ends at The Departed. some of the music cues alone should be jail for everyone involved. marky mark doesn't really bring anything to this role but watching him beat up post malone, wise-crack some dirty cops with duke and arkin and uncover a local conspiracy of machete-wielding drug dealers with marc maron on a boat? i've seen worse movies.
Do you think it ever crossed Mark’s mind that he was making the kind of movie that the opening part of The Other Guys was satirizing?
