Hey Letterboxd, giving this glorious work of art a 2.9 average rating doesn’t make you cool nor intelligent nor prestigious nor cinematically informed. It makes you ostentatiously obnoxious and conspicuously pretentious.
I’m very disappointed in your behavior. Do better.
Ok, so here's the thing....
It is impossible for me not to like this film. For two reasons. Before I go into them let me just first say that plotwise this is as predictable as it gets. Really, don't expect anything original there, the only thing original is the idea. The cast is excellent, Kunis is charming as hell, MacFarlane's voice acting is fantastic and Wahlberg completely steals the show in a fantastically timed comedic performance.
So here we go, reason number one:
I absolutely, unequivocally love Family Guy. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a prerequisite to enjoy this film. MacFarlane's anarchic humour speaks to me. Here he is rude and crass as ever, but…
If this movie was a person I would kill it, turn myself in, and walk into prison with my head held high
"You can sing any 90's song with just vowels."
In spite of its inherent predictability and its conventional structure, Ted is both an endearing and a deliriously profane examination of friendship. Seth Macfarlane subverts and twists traditional comedic trappings to go along with his own tale, crafting a film of intelligence that flows right along with its vulgar sweetness. Mark Wahlberg is hilarious, Macfarlane's voice acting is brilliant, and the entire runtime is overflowing with pop culture references and organic conversations. I've enjoyed this film since I saw it in 2012 and I still enjoy it now.
THUNDER BUDDIES FOR LIFE.

"John, I look like something you give to your kid when you tell 'em Grandma died."
the concept of a former child star teddy bear turned vulgar manchild is actually quite good and kind of sweet when it wants to be and there's a number of funny gags but macfarlane never met a joke he couldn't extend a full minute past its punchline. i already regret my decision to agree to guest on a family guy podcast.
