A grimy cheapo shockfest who’s cover would’ve hooked your eye at the video store, Terrifier feels like some kinda sleazoid 80’s slasher B-side mixed with mid 00’s ultra violence sensibilities—a relative to movies like Maniac and The New York Ripper.
Let’s cut right to it—this thing is Mean spirited, nasty, filled with tons of blood/violence bordering on torture porn, and features the maniacal Art the Clown—who has no issue sawing people in half or pulling out a gun and blowing someone away as he stomps in faces with his clown shoe. The budgetary trappings from All Hallows’ Eve are still there but the makeup and gore are definitely the beneficiary of said budget. Listen, this movie has its faults... its no game changer—we’ve…
Ok so i didn't watch this movie again but i keep thinking about it. Like, why is this movie so bad? Isn't it just a normal horror movie doing normal horror things? Aren't they supposed to be upsetting? Aren't they supposed to be scary? Men are bad and do bad violent things. Men dressed as clowns can you expect any more from them in the end? Don't you know what you are getting into when you watch a horror film?
In order to answer this question, we need to look into why and how horror movies are produced and consumed. I have spent my entire lifetime watching horror movies. They make me feel better or at least better able to…
I’ve read some very mixed reviews about this so I really didn’t know what to expect. Just based on that cover art I thought surely this would be a 5 star masterpiece. It turns out it’s not anywhere close to that level, but it’s still pretty good.
Art the Clown is terrifying and I really would like to see a whole series full of his shenanigans. This is gory and mean af so I completely get why some don’t like it. That stuff didn’t bother me probably because I’m dead inside, but there were still some parts that didn’t work too well. The super cliched coroner eating while working thing really made me roll my eyes like we get it:…
FUCKING LOVED THIS MOVIE
It's gory as hell, chill inducing, and fucking creative. Art the Clown is becoming quite an iconic character and this film puts a stamp on it. The characters are great. The hot blonde from Return to Nuke'em High is in this and she is wonderful. The body count is massive. The kills are amazing and inventive. The score rips off Halloween, but it suits the film really well. There is not a dull moment throughout the entire runtime. This is low budget filmmaking at its best. Terrifier is the best slasher to come out in YEARS.
I give it 10 human jack-o'-lanterns out of 10.
I was worried that maybe I wouldn't enjoy the feature film after watching both Terrifier [the original short] and All Hallows' Eve [anthology including the short], but I did!!! It has a little bit of that xVaMpIrExfReAkZxMySpAcEx stank on it, but it doesn't distract from the creepy mute clown theatrically terrorizing & terrifyin' people with lots of goopy & gross practical effects! 8/10 would watch a sequel.
take a fedora. make it worse. make it much smaller. give it an elastic strap. put it on. spend two hours staring in the bathroom mirror hating yourself and hating life. the tears of anger, of wasted time, of self-loathing, stream down your face as you yell furious imprecations at yourself, the worst possible language, until snot comes out of your nose to mix with the tears like you are trying to win a best supporting academy award but you are not you are not acting you really hate yourself and thank goddess no one but you is looking because you are not mugging for an invisible at-home audience like a fake psychopathic clown who truly hates women because women…
After watching the movie last night, I started to form my thoughts on a review. I woke up early this morning, kind of restless, and while I was in the shower I was talking myself through some of my thoughts and what I would write. And the more I talked about it, the less I wanted to bother giving this movie more of my time. So I'm just going to give some broad strokes.
I know there is an audience for this. Nostalgic fans of an era of slashers that were all gore and tits and no substance. And for those people, do whatever floats your boat. But this movie really offers nothing. It's a copy/pasted series of tropes with…
it's a violent movie so it's a violent review. don't read if ur squeamish.
Tonally and thematically reminiscent of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where we saw that these teens were so completely unaware, oblivious, ignorant, synonyms, of the dangers of the world that it didn't occur to them to be afraid until too late, except here the movie makes a point of establishing the girls as socially aware and so they're basically just really stupid. If you're looking for a movie with mystery and uncertainty you're in the wrong place. Every single character says something along the lines of either "literally kill me" or "I don't want to die tonight" within the first 2 minutes of being introduced.
No,…
this is a super corny attempt at a #branded horror icon and it seems a lil late in the game to do torture porn?? this movie really sucks imo! then again i don't go for these over the top grim ultra violent mean-spirited man horror movies that are obsessed with how edgy and dark they are but maybe thats bc i havent let rot infest my soul or im not a misogynist who gets horned up on seeing women get stripped naked and violently murdered! the clown is such an ugly loser who needs to get thrown through a woodchipper too like....! clowns arent even scary! why do they keep trying to make clowns happen! men are fucking idiots and horror bros who end up making movies are all dummies w shit taste. thats just my 2c tho but also: a fact!
Is it too late to take it back? You know, if I had watched these in order, I probably would have been like fuck any more of that. But instead, I figured I could gloss over all the misogyny and even some transphobia for extra fun, because the consensus is: we like art the clown. Yep I am pretty much a non confrontational wimp.
And being too far outside the box or having really unpopular opinions makes you a target. And I think I'd probably delete my account if too many people started telling me I should just kill myself. To be honest, I have pretty much avoided the internet up until now for those very reasons. I guess I…
This film exists for no other reason but to exploit the gruesome, graphic beheadings, stabbings, faces riddled with bullets, and perhaps the most egregious death I've seen in years. The death in Bone Tomahawk is essentially the same but nowhere near as classless as this. Art the Clown is incredibly, repulsively terrifying. A performance for the ages in regard to Grindhouse style low budge. The one girl gave me Neve Campbell vibes which I dug a lot. Until she's offed. I liked this one, it's horribly depraved and the practical effects absolutely worked for me.
Yeah....this movie wasn't great, either. It wasn't BAD, but it wasn't good. I can see why people would like this, more, than Hallows' Eve.
But at least it was easier to get through, than Hallows' Eve.
Honestly, the only good actor in here, was Art the Clown, he doesn't even SAY anything, but you can tell what he's thinking, just from his facial expressions.
I don't have much else to say about it 🤷🏻♀️, it wasn't good, but it wasn't terrible.
5.9/10. Film is gruesome and takes some chances. It’s about an 8.8 as a horror flick
literally so freaking scary made me pee my pants on the couch while watching w all my friends
An anomaly in which the film is totally incompetent in almost every way possible but also somehow unpleasant and creepy in a way a lot of 'better' made films fail to be. That's all because Art the Clown is fucking horrifying to watch and David Howard Thornton gives a performance that manages to turn scenes that would be goofy in any other film into nightmares here. Praying the character gets a better film next time round.
this is such a great movie to watch with friends. i think i’ve seen this movie close to 10 times by just putting it on when we don’t know what to watch. it’s so fun and gory!
A waste of good make-up.
Dull and hateful in a gurning at the audience 'have I triggered you?' kind of way.
31 DAYS OF HORROR: DAY 16
This one ain't for the squeamish. Ultra gorey and violent throughout. Art The Clown is a great villain.
Funny! In all sentes. Some unexpected situations and really nice practical effects. Best slasher since Scream.
While good for slasher fans, I don't really suggest anyone else watch it. While it has good effects work and an intimidating villain in Art the Clown, it feels as if Terrifier is only gore and shock factor meant to shake up squeamish viewers. While this works on paper it reaches a point where it's just downright uncomfortable, and you risk just being desensitized to it all after a while. Once the shock fades you're just left with an awkward Halloween flick you don't ever want to rewatch.
