Eso que tu Haces, The Wonders: O Sonho Não Acabou, That Thing You Do - EC, Cette chose que tu fais!, Cette chose que tu fais !
Bryan Cranston plays an astronaut in this film, just like Tom Hanks did in Apollo 13. Hanks plays a character called Mr. White, just like Cranston would later do in Breaking Bad.
This prompted a Keanu style, "whoa!"

ugh the scene when they hear themselves on the radio is perfection. hate that ethan embry disappears into disneyland but otherwise just delightful...

Ohhhhh I loved so so so many things about this! What a treat!
The perfect vanilla boy I’d never seen before and will never see again, a song so catchy I was thrilled when it played ~15 times and would have loved it to play 15 more, every smart Beatles joke that never poked too much fun at anyone, the perfect depiction of fame-induced euphoria (both for those consuming it *and* the ones experiencing it), the cherry-red suits that look divine on absolutely everyone, the sunglasses, the hair, the way Liv Tyler communicates how good a kiss is by the movement of her eyebrows, that final conversation that had me YELPING with glee. More! Give me more movies like this one!
even stranger to me now that Tom Everett Scott is the husband at the end of La La Land
“A man in a really nice camper wants to put our song on the radio!”
Tom Hanks’ writes and directs his passion project about the rise and fall of a mid-60’s one hit wonder band.
If only every passion project could be this much fun. You can totally tell that Hanks is having a blast recreating the 60’s of his childhood and the story pops along at an incredible rate. Of course, there’s ups and downs, but it never gets over-dramatic and it’s simply a joy joining these teens on their wonder-struck journey to fame and beyond.
BONUS POINTS to Steve Zahn who steals the movie and proves once again why he’s one of the most under-utilized comedic actors working today.
”Oh, I’m not here with these fellas.
I gotta pig in competition over at the livestock pavilion, and I am gonna win that blue ribbon.”
Four things:
1) I was born in Erie, PA where this is set
2) I’ve lived in Orange, CA where this was filmed
3) The Tom Hanks extended cut features 80% more Charlize Theron
4) The Tom Hanks extended cut also (further) reveals that Tom Hanks’ character is gay you’re welcome
The world loves Tom Hanks, that seems to be some sort of a statement most movie lovers and cinephiles agree upon. His portray of a kind-hearted, charming man in and outside the pictures have given him that title, but after seeing not one but two marathons by two pals here, Benjamin and Cam, its clear the path there was a path to be taken and sometimes his image seen to change, slightly for the worst.
Let me explain...
On the positive side, this is a nice musical though it falls victim of following every cliche there is. As a (if not mistaken) debut bts and in front of the camera for Hanks as a writer/director, there's much to love but…
one time, my buddy and i passed out on the couch watching the that thing you do dvd. the menu was one that just repeated itself without shutting off. six plus hours of the first verse/chorus of the song on repeat, nightmarishly burrowing into our psyches and we still watched it again the next day.
the first time on the radio scene is so underrated and pure. everyone is so pure in this. except for jimmy. fuck jimmy.
my neighbors are in agony that I’ve had this song on repeat for as long as I have.
There is no purer movie about a band, you cannot shake how good they are. Tom Everett Scott still makes me blush every time he picks up drumsticks. Liv Tyler is an ethereal dream with a wardrobe I need to emulate immediately. Wholesome, good-ass fun.
Wow! So good, so fun. Steve Zahn goes so hard in this. Tom Hanks playing a cold businessman but still says "get your patootie in the car!" when he's mad. At one point in the middle, I told my wife I was getting scared for it all to go wrong because I was having so much fun with the part before there was any conflict 😫
Deep Sea Diver did a cover of the song as a tribute to Adam Schlesinger and it fucking rules!
You would think it would be annoying after the 87th time I've heard this song, but it's not. I love this film.
Stop saying you're Spartacus. You're Guy Patterson of Erie, Pennsylvania, you fraud.
