Antoine and Olga, a French couple, have been living in a small village in Galicia for a long time. They practice eco-responsible agriculture and restore abandoned houses to facilitate repopulation. Everything should be idyllic but for their opposition to a wind turbine project that creates a serious conflict with their neighbors. The tension will rise to the point of irreparability.

Catching up on my SIFF 2023 reviews. This was a really gripping drama about two neighbors that just don’t get along. It’s a simnering and tension filled story that touches on a variety of themes--xenophobia, cultural differences, economic mobility, among others. It’s also part psychological thriller and overall is a really enjoyable watch. The ending is a little unsatisfying which is the only thing holding it back from a higher rating. But I would definitely recommend it.

A disturbing decent into rural dread that uses the economical implications of small town dynamics to fuel the tension and terror experienced by its inhabitants. Beautifully shot, impeccably acted and layered with a moral complexity that digs deep into the soul, Sorogoyen has created one of the best thrillers of 2022 by a long shot.
As bestas es una sesión de tortura fríamente calculada por dos de nuestros mejores guionistas. El guión de Peña y Sorogoyen permite al director lucirse dirigiendo a sus actores. De todo ese trabajo salen esas tomas largas y esos personajes imposibles de olvidar.
Si tenemos en cuenta los dos "extremos" en los que se maneja Sorogoyen, As bestas es sin duda alguna su película más "equilibrada"

It’s based on real events, events which took place in Galiza, in the year 2010, it’s something that happened here, where I live, in the province of Ourense.
It’s a social drama about a French man who lives in Galiza with her wife, he has to deal with the bad manners of some villagers.
It’s a good movie, it has an entertaining premise together with a good pacing (a bit slow but it works perfectly) and interesting characters that are able to connect with the audience.
