FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK fuck fuck fuck fuck
The Devil's Candy is the most METAL film I have ever seen!
Best film of 2017? You bet your sweet ass
Is Sean Byrne one of the best directors working today despite having only made 2 feature films? Hell fucking yeah!
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(sorry for the unprofessional nature of this review, just finished watching this and I'm still on cloud 9)
Watching Bob Larson anti-metal vhs tapes when there are no other metal vhs tapes to be had because you have already watched Cliff Em All 6 times in a row and being told that listening to Ozzy and Led Zeppelin will lead you on the path to hell you are already in the clutches of.
Practicing making the Metallica logo on your school desk with either end of a mechanical pencil over and over and then moving on to Slayer's logo which is easier than Metallica's logo both in terms of difficulty and number of letters rather than paying attention to math or home ec or whatever it is. Slayer's Reign In Blood has the whole album on each side…
I love the theme of movies like The Devil's Candy and The Amityville Horror, where men are just shitty fathers or husbands but blame it on supernatural forces: "It wasn't me who wanted to ax murder y'all, it was the house!" or "I'm sorry I forgot to pick you up from school the past two days, it was that damn Ed Hardy-looking butterfly children in hell painting!!"
My favorite part was when metal daddy & daughter were in the car, their heads bobbing along to the music involuntarily mimicking the bobble head on the dashboard, it was so saccharine I wanted to fucking puke.
The entire movie is just so, SO corny...but...at least it was short?
"TAKE A LOOK TO THE SKY JUST BEFORE YOU DIE, IT'S THE LAST TIME YOU WILL!"
I knew this existed, and that Ethan Embry was in it and the director of The Loved Ones made it. I watched zero trailers, read zero plot summaries, and went in completely blind. I liked it well enough, I’ll watch it again one day.
The Devil's Candy is super fun to watch if you pretend the villain is Harvey Weinstein.
Guys. GUYS. I'm NEVER buying a house. Nope. I've never been a big fan of being alone in a house, but now DEFINITELY screw that. It's condos for me for the rest of my life. Also, why aren't more people talking about this indie horror gem?! I may need to actually film a review for this, once I stop listening for strange noises.

P.S. That CGI fire though... Come on!
I had been putting off watching this because it’s on Netflix and, let’s face it, Netflix kinda sucks when it comes to horror movies. Really, I’m just over their constantly mediocre to awful selection. Nonetheless, I had read enough positive reviews for this to finally give it a chance and what do you know? It’s really good!
A family move into a new house only to find themselves dealing with satanic forces. This is really great watch. It looks wonderful, it’s got some great dark atmosphere, and at 80 minutes, it’s refreshingly brisk. It’s a blend of several horror sub-genres: supernatural horror, home invasion horror, and metal horror. Honestly, it actually works as all three. Metal horror, in my opinion,…
this was my (3)666th movie on letterboxd.com... wow... makes u think
Yep, that Byrne fella knows horror.
Even though this follow up to his superb debut is uneven and a bit too lean, it is still a cut above most.
The Devil's Candy is at its best when it goes full force for atmospheric horror. Byrne, aided by an absolutely superb cast, manages to instill a growing sense of unease and mystery and leads it to an intense climax.
Where it stumbles is in not fleshing out enough of its ideas. Which is a shame as he definitely has enough time in his narrative to do so. This makes it stuck in a limbo between a great short film and a fantastic feature length one.
Still, there's tons to enjoy here and Byrne remains an interesting voice in the genre that should probably make more films.
I liked the moody and atmosphere created by the antagonist. Well developed characters, dreadful atmosphere, haunting mythology and surprisingly. Of course, it's metal as hell and all that heavy metal soundtracks are awesome.
JUST REWATCHED THIS WONDERFUL LITTLE FILM AGAIN.THIS TIME WITH MY WIFE...SHE ALSO ENJOYED IT...ETHAN EMBRY IS PHENOMENOL,AS IS THE REST OF THE CAST...A LOUD,CREEPY THRILLER.
the combination of the killer mishandling the gun and ethan embry attempting to dispatch them with a baseball bat had me laughing in tears.
Gripping and unsettling, The Devil's Candy gives us some familiar themes but takes them in a different direction. The direction perfectly captures the disturbing ambiance and the actors gives some pretty decent performances and likeable characters. Transfixed throughout, this had me listening hard in case there were some whispers that shouldn't be there.
Gisteravond weer even een film gekeken op Horrify. Dit keer The Devil's Candy.
