SUNDANCE FILM NO. 8
Riveting and uber-comprehensive visual history of the modern Brazilian political machine. It is at times breathtaking, heartbreaking, and name-taking: in her film, Costa makes it very clear that there are good guys and bad guys in the world. The grey area has shrunk to an infinitesimal dot in the grand array of political figures. There is evil and it is ever present.
She also wisely uses the tools of the shitty documenteur - drones, voice over, excessive text-on-screen - and, in a completely surprising turn, makes them palatable and effective. I really can't believe it. This film accomplishes so much. It's also gonna be on Netflix soon, pls watch idk.
