Let me start with the positives:

And now, for the negatives:
- How can you make a film with 3 storylines, and yet, tell no story at all? No plot.
- Predictable, lousy, noisy jumpscares.
- Pretty much everything.
I don't even want to waste time with this garbage.
This was just a quick cash grab that utilises a well known franchise.
Serously, the people responsible for this movie to happen should be fired.
Fuck this film.
This film was incredibly choppy and the story was incredibly weak (what story?). It felt like random scenes strung together. Yes, I gave Cats a slightly higher rating.
There's a scene between Lin Shaye and Jacki Weaver that is completely awful. Both actors are wonderful. In order for this to have happened the worst directing and editing had to have occurred.
This film is poor on all levels, except there are a few actors that make it somewhat okay (John Cho, the above mentioned ladies, and Andrea Riseborough). The fingers in the hair scene doesn't make any sense, but the worms coming out of the dead bodies' faces somewhat made this more tolerable visually.

another entry in taking genuinely idiosyncratic foreign horror images, placing them into the boring, predominant american horror mode (at the moment: polished haunted house shit) and calling it a day. still a bit jump scare heavy in its sequencing but at the very least this distinguishes itself from the one of the many profoundly dull wan spin-offs by taking its anxieties about mortality emotionally seriously—was surprised at the hints of character complexity regarding cancer, abortion and assisted suicide that pepper the physical manifestation of contagious pain at the film's center—and very briefly veering into italian horror trash gore occasionally. i mean it's not fulci by any means but i have to respect any movie that explodes a practical squib dummy of an old lady all over a hospital floor.
I kept putting this off because I enjoy The Grudge movies and was convinced I wasn’t going to like it based on what so many people were saying and one of these days I’m going to stop doing that because this ended up being pretty fucking good. I’m really having a hard time understanding why everyone hated it so much? It’s definitely better than the original totally teen-centric American remakes. Maybe it’s the wildly different tone this one has?

This is everything that we don’t want from a January horror movie, yet we continue to get (for some reason). “The Grudge” does little to nothing right from a script-perspective. There is so much exposition within what ends up being a fairly straightforward story. While it’s easy to figure out where it is going; I have to give some kudos to whoever thought structuring it this way would be the best route. They tell these stories, both past and present, simultaneously in a way that never feels awkward. "The Grudge/Ju-On" has always been a strange franchise, equally filled with terrifying and comical moments and a purposely confusing timeline. The latter aspect is perhaps what makes the franchise less friendly to the general public compared to "The Ring/Ringu", for example.
While the out-of-order narrative can result in a surprising ending, with a satisfying crossover, it requires more patience from the audience that can easily get lost among so many characters. Too bad this is just one of the many problems with this new sequel/reboot.
