  weirdly the most poignant movie about wishing time would stop I’ve seen in a long time. at points over the last year, I’ve wished I could be in my own time loop with my person, and wish that time would fast forward so I wouldn’t have to keep thinking that the final goodbye might come soon. this is a movie about being able to step forward into whatever comes next, appreciating life for all its complexities and heartbreaks and beautiful things, regardless if it’s hard or seemingly unbearable. god I hope the next day is easier.

  The Map of Tiny Perfect Things is this years Palm Springs...a fun, endlessly enjoyable time loop story that’s an utter joy to watch. The story within, a teenager contentedly living the same day in an endless loop who meets a girl who’s also stuck in the time warp, is surprisingly deep. The outlook on love and loss surrounded by the occasional zingers, big gestures and touching moments offer a story that, despite being predictable and unimaginative, has a lot of heart. The casting of Kyle Allen and Kathryn Newton goes a long way here as they manage to overcome countless predictable elements and give two rather charming performances that ultimately improved the film drastically. The Map of Tiny Perfect Things certainly isn’t flawless, but it’s a perfectly pleasant teen romance, with appealing performances and a heartfelt message that’ll leave you satisfied once it concludes.

  Everyone is gonna compare this to Palm Springs and while in concept that is fair but The Map of Tiny Perfect Things has a small notion of uniqueness as it taps into the anxieties of the teenage mind and does so pretty well.

  It may be predictable, tropey and have all the expected moments of the time loop genre but this film can be charming as it’s bolstered by the two leads who pretty much hard carry this film through it’s simple characterisation and plotting.

  I can find entertainment in these types of films but when it comes to how this story resolves itself, the science side of things gets seriously laughable and cringe in the end. The first two…

  The Map of Tiny Perfect Things is the first surprise of the year. I actually really enjoyed this. A charming feel-good movie that brings both levity and poignancy and finds a freshness playing with a “Groundhog Day”-esque time-loop premise with rom-com tropes. Genre beats all there, but Ian Samuels uses them smartly and doesn’t waste time explaining obvious things, he gives you everything you could want out of this sub-genre and doesn't pretend to be anything more. Kathryn Newton and Kyle Allen are delightful together.
