Somewhat laughably introduced as 'the thinking man's Hostel'. It really isn't guys. This is dumber than a box of rocks, but kinda fun with it. Good kills and old school practical effects, and a story that gets more enjoyably ridiculous the longer it goes on. Could have done without the religious overtones and nu-metal soundtrack though, ugh. Too early in the morning and not enough coffee in the system for that shit.
An uneven, overstuffed yet still entertaining B-movie. This is a hilarious cross between a sloppy revenge thriller, a corny Hallmark Christmas film and a nasty splatter. One of the main problems of this film is that it suffers from trying to shove way too much. Overstuffed with sub-plots and flashback within flashback, interfering with the main plot. It reminds me of this film in terms of how overstuffed it is, though this is more competently made and generally more entertaining. There's too much going on in such a short runtime, with a gory, shlocky splatter that comes in a little too late that I'm sure most people after watching the first 70mins will begin to worry. Thankfully, the third act ramps the fuck up and ultimately makes it a worthwhile watch.
At one point the lead guy who’s just lost his daughter gives another little girl a gift and she actually says I can’t accept it . It’s not a gift until it’s wrapped .. then they give eachother dramatic looks
WHAT ?
This was just 1 of many cheesy moments lol .. and someone slap that little girl please 😂
i will say this wasn’t boring as it had a lot going on in it , probably too much but that helped serve as a distraction from the oozing cheese this emanated… bikers, bad cops & revenge .. entertaining for sure but quite trashy … it feels like a lifetime movie gone wrong .
What kinda backwoods bullshit is this?
It's a bloody revenge thriller that takes its time getting to the bloody revenge. One to many flashback sequences as well as two many subplots.
The film opens with a straight up horror scene then turns into a police procedural/crime thriller mashup. The crime elements went on for so long that I actually forgot this was a horror film until shit hit the fan during the bloody climax!
Those last 30 minutes saved this one for me as it was complete chaos! Bloody, gory and gruesome as hell. If they would've added that old vintage filter with dirt specks this would've been worthy of the grindhouse tag.
The Retaliators is an entertaining watch that takes some wild turns.
Oh it's also a Xmas horror film...kinda.
Bloody; brutal; confusing; convoluted; dumb; gory; messy; ridiculous; short; unrealistic; violent.
A HUNDRED UNSEEN HORRORS #99
HOOPTOBER QUALIFIER (extra)(yes I know I am late): Real-life musician or band in a movie... Lots of them actually.
Someone here wanted to do a version of MANDY with Bible Belt dollars, and what a mixed bag of tricks, tropes and subgenres ended up splattered on screen.
Is this a spiritual horror? I have no idea, but the whole film feels like it’s asking, “Jesus may I kill him now?” The self-righteous heroes can be violent toward human demons and animalistic and/or mentally-ill humans, if they have since been stripped of their humanity mainly by torture and depravity? I feel it skips right over the Salvation part to go right into Revelations...
The acting is…
Horror sub-genre upon sub-genre is shoehorned into a strange mix of Hallmark Christian movie of the month, MTV Headbangers Ball and Hostel-style grue-fest that is very much less than the sum of its parts……..
The horror genre is often a brilliant way of holding serious discussion within the context of rip-roaring, crowd-pleasing entertainment. It can also be used to wrong-foot an audience so audaciously in turns of genre or tonal shifts partway through as to leave an audience amusingly shocked and brilliantly baffled. It can even be used to mix in elements of so many different sub-genres as to create something entirely new, even within the relative straight-laced narrative confines of mainstream horror fare. When these are done well, they…
FrightFest 2021: Film 20
I’m unreasonably angry that I was forced to look at Five Finger Death Punch.
thanks to this film i now have the name of my christian death metal band - one-eyed yul brynner and the woodchippers
this one came in with a lot of holes and duct tape, but it managed to tie a few coherent ideas together in the end
The Retaliators started off as a vengeance movie for a father over his daughter's death. It becomes almost something else once you get to the second half of this movie.
The movie does entertain as a b movie style thriller. It threw in some horror elements and action to make sure you keep the attention on the story and less on the runtime. After the first half of this movie, it gets bloody and action filled. Perfect for those wanting that thrill in this thriller which was set around Christmas time.
Overall this was a decent watch. Great for those who enjoy exploitation style movies that's heavy in action and mild with story.
