  Beautiful cinematography, an enchanting score, and a newfound sense of gothic fantasy make The Secret Garden a worthwhile cinematic rendering of the classic novel. The characters here aren’t particularly compelling, which severely hinders the story, but the imaginative fantasy elements help salvage the project. Screenwriter Jack Thorne, who also wrote the infamous Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play, uses magic to better effect here than in his previous project. Ghostly visions of lost family members haunt the main characters, thus furthering the film’s focus on mourning and moving forward. It’s simultaneously better than you’d expect and exactly what you’d expect.

  I knew a few minutes in when I saw the CGI red breasted robin that this wasn’t gonna be up to scratch. It’s so funny how in 2020 they have so much more available to do yet it produces so much less in regards to charm and magic. There’s a missing ingredient somewhere.

  The 1993 version of The Secret Garden is as close to perfect as a family film will get, and it’s also a superb adaptation of the novel, and this, whilst isn’t horrible by any stretch, just really misses the mark. The overuse of CGI in the garden and with the animals took away some of the enchantment that this story usually has, and also trying to add…

  Legit one of the worst films of the year, only made worse by the fact that the only other person in the theater was a bald business man (picture Lex Luthor as a reference) that looked like he was there to acquire the entire building rather than watch the film - he had no mask on and the theater staff told him that he couldn't be there without a mask, so he started arguing that Covid-19 is a lie.

  Mainly watched it cause of Julie Walters aka Mrs. Weasley "Harry Potter"

  Been awhile since seeing the original film.
  A nice Spring time movie.
