The Silenced is a Korean psychological horror film set in an all girls school written and directed by Lee Hae-young and co-starring Park So-dam from ‘Parasite.’
The film begins when Park Bo-young’s Ju-ran is enrolled in a sanatorium boarding school by her stepmother, somewhere in Korea in the late 1930s, when it was still under Japanese rule. She is a sickly girl and regularly coughs up blood. The school’s headmistress, played by Uhm Ji-won, devises a course of treatment for her and she slowly starts to see signs of improving health in herself.
