In 2019, this work of pure EU optimism and liberal multi-nationalism is already a fascinating historical relic. Too bad it's also a gentrification fantasy about a misogynist creep who lives with such cooky people (they share a fridge! They smoke weed! One of them is gay!) and gets laid so much on his year abroad that he chooses to abandon economics and become a writer.

Não é simplesmente a técnica e tudo o que está envolvido na montagem de um filme que o faz grande. Alguns filmes viram gigantes em nossas vidas porque eles conseguem falar ao coração. Vão fundo nas nossas emoções e retiram a camada espessa que vai se acumulando ao longo da vida.

O Albergue Espanhol vai na linha da obra do Richard Linklater e lembra muito um comentário do diretor Rob Reiner que disse saber fazer filme sobre gente real e sobre a condição humana.

Quem na vida nunca ficou perdido sem saber que rumo tomar? Muitos ficam nessa até morrer.

There’s a good movie in here but this is overlong, overwrought and aesthetically ridiculous. The central theme of knowing when to pursue and hold onto happiness vs when to move on from a good time before it becomes a bad time is one I enjoy. At times it’s done well. There’s some youth nostalgia hangout energy but squanders opportunities to develop characters in favor of light erotic comedy. Hit or miss but worth a watch if you don’t mind looking at Romain Duris’ dopey face for 2 hours or hearing the same goddamned part of the same goddamned Radiohead song 4 times. Why? Do you think that’s a thoughtful leitmotif? Can you imagine being in the editing room like “yeah drop No Surprises on em again!” Get the fuck out.

watch this with ur homies if u wanna laugh at how sexist and weird it is. The acting is so bad it’s funny and there’s these like weird montage that tries to be trippy at the end. 1/10 recommend. Watched for my French class and I’m probably going to go off on how sexist it was to my male professor, I will keep my loyal letterboxd followers in the loop

Romain Duris is a horny, whiny, man-baby in Barcelona for two hours. That’s it. That’s the movie.

This film is so bizarre to me. If I didn’t know before watching this, I would have said it was an adaptation of a comic book. The filmmaking style has multi-screen views and overlapping elements that are exactly like in comics. But instead of saving humanity or something noble, Xavier learns to speak Spanish and how to do sex real good from a wise lesbian couple. 

Also, this film needle drops Radiohead’s No Surprises, not once, not twice, but three glorious times. Qulle ennui!

Another proof that if you are going to travel abroad you should end up your relationship 😜

I decide to watch because of the name. Any 'Spanish' thing attracks me. So the film goes, I do love it. It's a a film that all exchange students MUST watch it, pre-while-post of their Erasmus. Pitty me that I discover such a diamond 4 years later of my exchange to Spain. Gives the real soul of Erasmus. Loved it!

PS: I also speak 'Putamadre' :)
