  Rumor had it that Wes Anderson’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” — the first of the four Netflix shorts the filmmaker has made from Roald Dahl’s anthology book of the same name — would be such a radically faithful adaptation of its source material that it would ironically feel like something altogether new. Lucky for us, that rumor was at least half true. Two-thirds true, even.

  The yogi turning the box to create the illusion of levitation, and the way that illusion still works even though you've just seen the mechanics of it, is the most concise summation of what Wes is doing with his style that I've seen.

  Ralph Fiennes starting the monologue, Dev Patel being the doctor narrator, Ben Kingsley as the guy who can see without using his eyes and last but not least, Benedict Cumberbatch as Henry Sugar - this cast and their performances took this adaptation to the highest of highs it could attain and all that under the lens of one of the greatest artists of this era, Wes Anderson.
