Bella Brown: In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t fit in. And I don’t want to fit in.
Billy: In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t fit in. And I don’t want to fit in.

thank god - she didn't have a mental illness that actually caused her distress - it was the cute and quirky kind
and thank god - she didn't befriend an old homeless guy in the park - her elderly friend was rich and had no relatives and it was going to end up so well for her
and thank god she wasn't a 'plain jane' or getting a bit long in the tooth - she was young and pretty so she could find a cute, quirky guy
and to think I was a bit worried there....
1 star for that Moriarty dude - he can come cook at my place any old time he likes
There are nights like tonight when my anxiety and depression come together to make me overthink everything and want to curl into a ball and sob for reasons unclear. I find myself comparing my life and my things to others and contemplating if I am loved in the relationships I'm in. Why do I say all that? To present a mindset going into this movie, I suppose.
I loved this. I needed a magical little movie with characters to fall in love with and a story to tug me in from my current reality. It's predictable and simple and yet special to me already.
"Everything that matters takes time."
This will be another film I add to my comfort movies.…
—You were happy together?
—As happy as two people can be, I think.
It amazes me the capacity of writing something completely—almost ridiculously—predictable and not losing the sensitiveness and beauty of a story. I could tell what was about to happen on the next 10 minutes at every 10 minutes: twins & triplets, death, broken heart, reaching a hard dream without showing effort. Yet this story stole my entire heart.
Well, maybe I like some fairy tales.
And oh, every single piece of this is a Virgo.
Honestly? I'm such a hoe for quirky, aesthetically pleasing British films, I'll watch anything. More charming than cliche, and sweeter than tiresome.
i can pinpoint the exact time in my life where this would’ve been a favorite movie, and honestly i miss being that innocent
I really wanted to like this. Even when Anna Chancellor appeared within five minutes as a 'shush'-type librarian. Even when Andrew Scott appeared as another twitchy weirdy irritant within ten minutes, bringing gappy-toothed twins along during the first fifteen minutes.
Jessica Brown Findlay is another graduate of Downton Abbey that has made a pathway into films (after the sad demise of her character, the only interesting sister of the Crawley family). Here she is a pretty, obsessive compulsive who has been neglecting her garden and risking the wrath of nosy borderline oddball Tom Wilkinson.
This had so much potential but it doesn't have the nerve to look head-on the issues around Brown Findlay's OCD, or her friendship with Scott, or…
Tonight Matthew I am going to be Amelie but far less good and more narratively inconsistent and with a terrible, terrible twinkly score - if you like glittery whimsy you’ll love this, if you don’t it’s like being punched in the face by a delightful sense of wonder for ninety odd minutes. No idea why the spiffing inventor chap was more attractive than the cook who actually seemed to have an actual backstory and some kind of slither of relatability but these questions rather suggest this film is not for me. Also good to know that Paul McCartney’s son in law is happily redefining twee far beyond Sir Thumbsaloft’s most egregiously self indulgent moments. It’s not bad as such but when a character unironically talks about adopting ducks then you know the sort of film you’re watching...
It’s very very twee and as much as it tries it’s never going to be Amelie, but if you’re after some whimsy it’s a cute watch.
Beijos andrew scott
This is a very sweet movie. I wish I could give it three and a quarter stars but I’ll round up. A girl, Bella, in her 20s who grew up without a family and has carved out her own little insular adult life finds her found family in two widowers: One young with kids and the other old and grumpy. The grump of course falls away by the end and Bella has a grandfather figure to match the protective older brother she found in Vernon.
Speaking of Vernon: I’d like to applaud everyone involved in making this character happen. A kind and sweet man who in no way has any possible romantic feelings to the beautiful female lead? And on…
Any film with Andrew Scott and Tom Wilkinson is worth watching.
I don’t know what it is about Andrew Scott as an actor but he’s beyond exceptional in everything I see him in. His character in this film is nothing new but Andrew makes this character come alive in a way that no other actor could. To say Andrew Scott is one of the best actors in the world is an understatement. As good as his great films are it’s his performances in okay films that really show how good he is. He makes everything as great as it could be. This films cute. The actors are great and it’s story is sweet even if it brings very little new…
