  I decided to move this up to a full five-star rating because there's really nothing I can think of that I don't love about it. It's not an absolutely perfect film, but in terms of fantastic performances, cinematography, score, editing, pacing and the perfect blend of action/comedy/drama; it's an exceptional one where no faults have any effect on my overall experience with it.

  The story behind the making of Three Kings is almost as fascinating as the subject matter in David O. Russell's powerful satire on war and American imperialism - reports of Russell's enormous egotism as he wrestled with a movie Warner Bros had placed difficult conditions on, concerned about the tricky subject matter; spats with star George Clooney over treatment of crew members, a feud that lingered for some time; and indeed writer John Ridley's supposed shut out of the final screenplay, causing much animosity (which oddly enough happened again recently on 12 Years a Slave). You'd imagine with all those issues Three Kings could have turned out a train wreck, but on the contrary - Ice Cube in particular suggested…

  Set during the end of Gulf war, its a well made satirical war comedy drama, that’s cleverly scripted as a heist movie blending anti war elements, political undertones, solid action, drama, well written dialogues and dry humor with excellent twists and turns. The opening scenes are a bit obnoxious and does take a while to get into its characters, but once it does it’s complete fun. George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Spike Jonze and Ice Cube deliver enjoyable quirk loaded performances. The dynamic documentary style cinematography adds to the flair. One solid watch.

  It’s funny how Clooney’s character became an ex special forces advisor for Hollywood war movies after he was discharged. It’s ironic because they desperately needed an expert to teach tactics for this film. The way they just ran through hallways and didn’t clear a single room or corner made me cringe for my life. Don’t go into this expecting the slightest realism of weapon maneuvering. If you can do that then you’ll probably enjoy the rest of the film.

  this isn’t just any war movie, it’s a tear gassed, stress fest heist, camouflaged in the heart of a senseless cycle of war and tragedy. the immense greed of consumer culture visualized in front of an occupied, eruptive kuwaiti backdrop. known for character driven films, david o. russell produced a compelling and provocative blend of zest, wit, action and a conundrum of gold versus morals.

  What at first glance potentially seems to be nothing more than an action movie with a very quickly paced narrative, makes a sincere endeavour at dealing with the politics of foreign policy. The obligation of the powerful to accept the supervision of the vulnerable, and the misery of the innocent when that obligation is dishonoured. Adapted from an original story by John Ridley that constrains a tremendous proportion of vitality, Three Kings depicts a treasure chase that pivots into a mission to save human lives.

  Clooney's Heroes.

  As someone who has only seen two of his films now, I guess I'm not in any kind of position to make a judgement on David O. Russell's career.

  But over the course of those two films, those being Three Kings and the dreary Silver Linings Playbook, I have already noticed a pattern. It's a pattern that I'm hoping is just a two film coincidence when I watch American Hustle tonight and Flirting With Disasters in the near future, but definitely a thing.

  Silver Linings Playbook could have been a good romantic comedy, using two unpredictable leads in a fairly unique situation for that kind of film and backing them with a good support cast in fine form.…

  This movie is set at the end of Gulf War 1, which is the war where there was global outrage because the Americans DIDN'T get rid of Saddam. Don't confuse the situation with Gulf War 2, where there was global outrage because the Americans DID get rid of Saddam.
