Come on, it’s fun!
Besides a boring villain and weak third act, I loved the characters of Venom and Eddie Brock. Venom’s goofy and playground-bully self is straight out of the 2000 Neversoft Spider-Man game Michelle Willams was decent too (can’t remember her character’s name though :/).
Instead of going with the dark and tragic origin (which has a lot of potential actually) Sony decided to go marketable and fun, which I can respect. I wish there was a more compelling story and a better villain though (if one is even necessary).
Good movie? Absolutely not. Funny movie? Definitely. And I’m %100 percent sure it was intentional. Ruben Fleischer who directed Zombieland? Check. Funniest scene in any comic book movie ever (Lobster scene?) Check. I think this is a tad above Ant-Man & the Wasp level PG-13 comedy fun, and I love it.
