me, giving something a star-rating in the year 2019? it's... dare i say... a thermodynamic miracle.
but Watchmen is more than a miracle—it is far more planned, articulate, masterful than chance. as a newcomer to the graphic novel and Synder's film, i find myself delighting in an alternate reality, for the most part. it is dark, violent, morally askew, erotic, crude, self-referential and self-critical. but it is also a very masculine text, both literature and film; it is universal inasmuch that the universe is made in the image of powerful men with faulty egos, hubris.
this Watchmen, though? it is of today, of yesterday, of a long history not represented, acknowledged, documented enough. the writers exploded an already fleshy political…
I used to think Zack Snyder's film was good. Then I watched the show and realized how mediocre the film is in comparison! In a year of disappointing shows like Big Little Lies S2 and Game of Thrones S8, it's good to know that there are still masterful original shows like this. Damon Lindelof can do no wrong!!
Lindelof's career has been focused on the limitations of our presence in time, the limits of our aging and the hurt that ripples outward from where it is created inside of us. The new step that Watchmen takes is to make this focus disciplined, racially motivated, and formally coherent: the central narrative act of Mesmerism is intrinsically tied not just with the inception of the superhero genre but also the inception of film itself. Where the original comic was a critique of the medium at the time, Watchmen entangles a critique of the propagandist dimensions of media in relation to the long-term sprawl of history.
So, it's an imperfect work from television’s ballsiest writer. It is both dorky and a…
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!
A "superhero" show that actually took risks and tackled serious subject matters. Damn, Watchmen ain't playing. This shit is bananas.

AND I BELIEVE IN TELEVISION
“This is the moment.”
the greatest TV we’ve gotten since Twin Peaks The Return. masterful stuff. it’s honestly kind of a miracle that television this good still exists today, television this focused, television this enthralling, television this consistent. lindelof is a god. all hail.
(note: the LB staff added this so it isn’t coming down, not a user thing like a lot of other shows added on here)
5 stars overall because it was one of most fascinating tv series i’ve ever seen BUT i didn’t love the finale. don’t get me wrong: i liked it, but for a series that never didn’t feel fresh and reveled in gleeful subversion, the finale seemed a little pat and, dare i say, comic-bookish to me
I wrote a pretty long-winded review about my frustrations with how everything technically ties together but in a way that still feels very separate from each other, inconclusive, and not worth the time spent fleshing out aspects that go nowhere, but I think what it boils down to is that this is my first Damon Lindelof show. You can read that review on Patreon.
Despite these frustrations, though, the first half (maybe more) of this series was incredible, with inventive storytelling (except when it flashes back to what we’ve already seen to boast its own foreshadowing, not for the sake of breaking linearity), great new characters, and older versions of the original characters that only give them more depth, and…
regina BEEN king
can't wait for twitter to watch this one year from now and be like "y'all seen this show? it's SO good"
So it wasn't what I expected it was going to be but it ended up being a pleasant surprise.
The acting in this was phenomenal and really was the anchor behind it all. The story was good... I like that they used the incident in New York from the Graphic Novel instead of from the Snyder movie but they still have some flourishes from the Snyder film.
I hope this is just a one-off limited series, because it is the best companion piece to the original so far.
Visually gorgeous and a good length considering how much story is involved.
WOW. WOW. WOW.
sumpah, Watchmen BAGUS BANGET!
Watchmen terbaik!
wasn’t sure what to expect when i started this but it slapped harder than Dr. Manhattan’s gigantic blue dick against his thigh! funny, emotional, intense, and very well directed.
i’m also glad to see that the catch-and-release fetus program is in full-swing 👶🏻 🎣 🚣♀️
Yhaaa~ cekokin aja terus diri ini dengan series2 HBO ampe gumoh 😅
Awal nonton sebenernya udh dr taun lalu, tp sempet stop di eps 3 soalnya ngerasa lost dan ga paham ceritanya. Yaudin, tinggalin deh. Sampe akhirnya ngumpulin lagi niat tadi siang buat nyoba nonton series ini, dan GAK NYESEL MY GOD WATCHMEN ANDA KOK BAGUS SYEKALIH SIIIH?? Gumusssh 🥺
Semakin eps bergulir, misteri yg dikupas makin asik, sampe akhirnya ada letupan twist yg bikin daku sampe cengo-bego-puas gitu 😭😭
MI LIKEY MI LIKEY MI LIKEY!!!!!
Amazing show.
Storytelling was so detailed - was continuously impressed as the show unfolded with how much thought went into the world and characters.
Great acting all around, especially from Regina King. Absolutely lived up to the hype, it was amazing to watch actors from what seemed to be different universes all end up colliding into such a crazy plot line.
loved the ways Damon Lindelof played with themes and visuals from his previous shows in WATCHMEN. Some of the music sequences and opening scenes particularly reminded me of The Leftovers, in the best way.
i wish it was longer, but i see how Lindelof accomplished everything he wanted to in the world with this series. i just was so taken with the world itself and the quality of the characters and storyline that it was sad for it to end in just nine episodes.
me anytime ozymandias did his lil schemes: yes peepaw you got this king i believe in you‼️
Weird to say this about a dystopian comic book series, but when the show is grounded in the more gritty, political police drama, it soars; when it fully surrenders to sci-fi, it falters, losing some of the more intimate, human parts.
Underhållande och mycket välgjord onda vs dom goda story - och till skillnad från originalet är det väldigt självklart vilka dom onda/goda är. Saknar till stor del dom moraliska frågorna som originalet har och karaktärerna är mindre intressanta.
