A recent monologue night at New York’s Jane Hotel ended with actor Jesse Eisenberg telling a long and charmingly logorrheic story about the massive crush he once developed on a radical teenage leftist during the early 2000s. He was an ultra-neurotic Jewish kid who worshipped at the altar of Woody Allen, while she was a budding revolutionary who preferred the droll comedic stylings of Howard Zinn; her mom ran a woman’s shelter, her dad wrote fiery screeds in support of Nicaraguan liberation, and her new boyfriend memorized socialist flashcards in a cute-sad effort to hold a conversation with anyone in the family. It might be a while before he wrapped his brain around the difference between the Contras and the…
i’m convinced that jesse eisenberg was still in character as mark zuckerberg when he made this movie

Jesse Eisenberg proposes some interesting ideas here, and there is a complex relationship on display between the two leads, but the story ultimately goes nowhere. We are given two unlikable characters who are each dealing with something throughout the film. Evelyn is trying to find peace through a young boy at her shelter. It feels as if she is trying to have the relationship that she has always…
Great lead performances from Finn Wolfhard and especially Julianne Moore, who is at the top of her game. Both craft unlikable characters who are, relatably, painfully blind to their flaws. Think Eisenberg’s skill as a writer really shines too.
Jesse Eisenberg had zero screen time and yet it was still too much Jesse Eisenberg
WHEN YOU FINISH SAVING THE WORLD is the exact film I’d expect from Jesse Eisenberg to direct (I mean that as a major compliment). Fell hard for this one, especially Julianne Moore’s performance.
When You Finish Saving the World shows great potential for Jesse Eisenberg as writer-director with his snappy dialogue and by successfully depicting the disconnect between parent and child in the digital age. But it feels all over the place, lacking in cohesion to create emotional bite.

WHEN YOU FINISH SAVING THE WORLD is light family portrait that thrives in its simplistic nature. Despite a lack of thematic depth, Finn Wolfhard & Moore’s performances shine alongside Eisenberg’s breezy script in a solid outing for A24, establishing him as a promising voice to watch

People are annoying ... Jesse Eisenberg gets it.
The direction could be improved but the script is creepy and hilarious and weird and I loved that about this. Finn Wolfhard has the most of my attention he's ever had now and Julianne Moore remains amazing. People that need to have characters to root for won't like this because it's about people's shittier moments but I find films like this refreshing and I like how much the movies loves and hates the characters.
It's lift!
Really enjoyed this funny and very cringy mother and son dramedy. Has the humor you might expect from Eisenberg’s script. I wish I’d seen it in a theater to hear the jokes land cause it had me chuckling in spite of my isolation.
Character drives the story as we’re figuring out what to make of these self-absorbed people and aren’t instructed not to like them. We’re instead challenged to discover their redeemable qualities, and in this exercise I absolutely saw myself in them by the end. A self-effacing experience for me.
