Paul Thomas Anderson's version of Short Cuts is a confident and assured film, that lets the camera linger on the actors for extended periods of time, conveying intimate moments extremely well. Where as I don't think that Boogie Nights has the pay off at the end, I think Magnolia has the perfect payoff. It is a three hour film that flies by perfectly, and there are multiple amazing monologues in the movie, Still, I think that all five stars go to Phillip Seymour Hoffman and his fake lighting of the cigarette. That is one amazing moment.
