"Seeing the Past Through A Dusty (and older) Window"

During my review for In The Mood For Love written and published last year when I first experienced the film for the first time in theaters as part of the wonderful World of Wong Kar Wai screenings I commented that "Although the film deals with very adult and mature concepts that I feel only adults who have experience real marriage before would fully understand and get, director Wong Kar-wai still excellently…

Out 1 is a powerful and overwhelming opus caught in between the last breath of French New Wave and the first breath of modern cinema. Taste of Cherry

How can I described or even give my thoughts on this 1997 effort that would truly do the film justice. Taste of Cherry is simple yet complex, beautiful yet haunting, depressing as it is optimistic, colorful as it is dark. This is pure contemplative cinema on top form. It might not be for some and Abbas Kiarostami's other works certainly is a hit or miss for me but this thing captured and captivated me to no end. The performances, screenplay, direction, cinematography and especially its themes and how it handles it is so minimalist yet so special. A Post Modern Masterpiece from Kiarostami.
