After almost a month of mostly mid, I needed to watch something like this to remember what it's like to be constantly amazed throughout a movie.
An absolute masterpiece. The whole thing is insanely orchestrated but the last act alone is a masterclass of narrative cinema.
Had the whole family captivated and I'm glad they finally took my recommendation and watched a foreign film for once lol.

A modern day fable that plays out like an overt attack on the senses which left me feeling inspired, hopeful and speechless.
A visual poem that's mystical and spiritual, transcendental yet tangible. A philosophical journey that explores loneliness when surrounded by excess and indulgence.
The lifestyles of the rich and the famous, the jaded and disconnected.

Rick is an interesting character, if a bit shallow. His philosophical and existential dread need a bit more of an edge in my opinion.…

Charlotte Wells is just so damn good.
She injects her projects with so much meaning and purpose.
I can't help but admire her.
    This is pretty powerful.
Not sure it needed the first scene though tbh. It could have just started at the subway.

    Super impressed.
Straight up Giallo/Lynch vibes all over this. I can see a lot of Lynch love especially.
Surprised by how great it is for a no budget short. A great job all around.
The camera work and lighting especially is solid. The shot of the birdy/rooster light falling was so dope.
The shot of the moth on the lamp was crazy. Lynch/Winding Refn vibes for sureeeeee. Especially with the Twin Peaks reference.
Movie lovers can most likely relate.
Super atmospheric and the sound design really heightens the moods along with the lighting.
    The ending was a mindfuck.

Remember that scene in 40 year old virgin when Steve Carrell talks about what he likes about sex with a woman when the audience knows he's a virgin who's never done anything naughty/obscene in his life? When he refers to grabbing boobs as "bags of sand" and everyone catches on to how out of touch he is?
Now imagine that for 3 hours.

Remember the first time you and your siblings/cousins/friends learned the word…

The cinema of emotional exhaustion and manipulation.

The best cinematography in the world doesn't make this film a masterpiece. It's still quite decent in production but upon deeper reflection it leaves a lot to be desired.

Extremely manipulative and shallow film that is shot and directed so incredibly that it almost masks the real agenda here.

I kept wishing it would end.
The music was horrendous and consistently stripped away any of the nuance that was possible here. Manipulative Is…
