Mickey Rourke zeroes in on his future antagonist in YEAR OF THE DRAGON & tells the man he's too impressed with himself. That's essentially the main problem with the film, which has delusions of grandeur as a "think-piece," especially with the script co-written by Oliver Stone but is protracted, manipulative, & kind of a mess. There's enough here for it to be watchably average but I can't say I really recommend it.
A talented roster of A-listers (including scene stealer Sam Rockwell) bring the profane poetry of Martin McDonagh to life in SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS, which is a shockingly visceral critique of screenwriting tropes, Hollywood crime movies, & masculine stereotypes.
Messy & occasionally awkward yet surprisingly moving when you least expect it, this undeniably strange film startles as much as it entertains.
