Best Spider-man movie without question.
US is an audacious & clever trip through the looking glass that asks how Americans are going to live with ourselves after being reminded of who we really are. a lot funnier than it is frightening — a horror movie for a world in which real life is scary enough on its own. Lupitas! that score!
definitely some bumps in the road, but i was sold on its big ideas. anything more will have to wait.
hey it’s been a while since we’ve talked about how hard this movie fucks — was thinking it would be productive to get that dialogue going again!
this movie FUCKS SO HARD that, after merely watching the fallout trailer, i watched all 5 previous mission: impossibles for the first time ever. that 2 minute clip pointed henry cavill’s arm at my head, forcing me to watch 10 1/2 hours of tom cruise running so fast... and every day i thank l ron hubbard it did so.
This was in my queue forever. Overall, I found it to be a fun, pulpy romp.
Really happy that Zahler is fighting the fight and making original modern genre cinema. Some of the most disturbing onscreen violence I've seen in quite some time.
I think speeding up the pace would greatly help. But I also have to respect that this is clearly what Zahler wants... Brawl is 132 mins and Dragged Across Concrete is 159 mins. He likes his films on the long side.
