Tomboy 2011
Making my (probably just one day) return to letterboxd to say i <3 Céline Sciamma and everything she makes. This film was very validating to certain bits of my growing up experience, and even apart from that it was one of the best things I have watched in a while.

They did Mcconaughey so dirty with that fake blonde hair. Also, throwing away every m&m that isn't brown? Mf had two brain cells left and it showed.

Holes 2003
Embarrassing fact, my little brothers and I and our neighborhood friends no joke used to go into our backyard and recreate this movie from start to finish. Towels under the baseball caps, made-up nicknames, and a journey up a "mountain" (the porch steps). Eventually got in trouble for digging up the backyard and my mom got us a sandbox. A big win...except we probably shouldn't have been romanticizing the criminal justice system in elementary school.
