Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★★

This is the most difficult Star Wars film to talk about because of how polarizing the reviews amongst fans are. If you don’t love it or hate it, it’s like you’re crazy. Well, after my 4th viewing of The Last Jedi, it’s safe to say I fall right in the middle.

This film is filled with great moments. I absolutely love the throne room scene with Rey and Kylo. The final battle on Crait is awesome, and over time I’ve grown to like the fact that Luke was projecting himself. I enjoy the Rey/Kylo scenes where they communicate through the force. Yoda might have my favorite scene in the whole movie. There’s definitely a lot to like.

However, I find myself frustrated with a lot of the decisions made in Epiosde VIII. The entire sequence on Canto Bight is ridiculous and should’ve never made the final cut, it really slows down the movie. I find the character of Rose irritating and a significant amount of the humor in this film is a major miss for me... it felt out of place. Broom kid was a cheesy addition to the film in my opinion as well. The whole Poe/Holdo situation also didn’t really work for me.

In the end, The Last Jedi is not a disastrous film like it’s made out to be nor is it a masterpiece or the best Star Wars film since Empire like some claim it to be. Looking forward to The Rise of Skywalker tonight!
