Rye Lane is another fabulous addition to the “prove me wrong” list where I start a movie a bit skeptical as to whether or not I am going to like it and by the end I am just completely won over in every single way. It happens time and time again and its one of the reasons I love being a bit adventurous when deciding what to watch. Not only did this movie work for me but it solidifies Raine Allen-Miller as a serious up and comer, with Rye Lane being her feature directorial debut. I loved everything about this, the chemistry between David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah, the humor, the witty banter and most of all the FUCKING cinematography which is absolutely brilliant. I mean Olan Collardy shoots the shit out of this thing, unafraid of taking chances. The vibrant colors, the weird fishbowl shots (some of which Ive never even seen used before), the tracking shots throughout the streets of London. Collardy uses everything at her disposal to create a wonderfully unique visual collage. This has already shot to the top of my 2023 watches so far. Did I mention its 82 minutes!!
