The Mist

The Mist ★★★½

Watched the black and white version. There were some things that I felt like I kind of missed about the color. The creatures seem a bit strange in black and white -- a strange clash of modern film effects with older aesthetic. The computer smoothness of their textures and movements is really strange in monochrome. However... the mist itself is stunning and even scarier when all is devoid of color.

I remembered how this movie ended from my theatrical viewing, and my rewatch shortly after it hit home video... but I forgot how brutal it is to experience. That is some DARK ASS SHIT. I'm frankly shocked that Frank Darabont was able to get away with it. I guess releasing the film it in color was the trade-off. Ga' bless modern home video technology. We live in a truly wonderful time for movie lovers.
