Dolemite slaying screens!! This exceeded my expectations, which is quite a relief. Enjoyed the hell out of it - from the cold start to all the various ups/downs throughout. The film has such a strong energy, you can feel the big beating heart of Rudy pumping right through the screen. Exceptional performance from Eddie Murphy - he really captures that effusive spirit & energy, and carries it throughout without a single crack in any scene. It's really about a lonely, downtrodden guy who just wants to make a name for himself so he puts that frustration and sadness into the performing arts, becoming a beloved triumph in the end. All the music in the films adds so much and is worked right into it in a vital way. So good I might watch it again soon, there's a handful of iconic scenes that should play just as wonderfully no matter how many times you've seen it.
