Spider-Man: Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home ★★★★

Super good superhero fun. I still think Homecoming is better. But! This one nicely balances the post-Endgame heaviness of becoming what the world expects/needs vs the push to be yourself (aka coming-of-age / teenage hormones). And I like that balance - Peter Parker really struggles to deal with it all, and to figure out what matters to him, and if he can handle it. Overall still enjoyable. I just didn't feel like there was anything that really stood out, no one scene or sequence that impressed me beyond some cool CGI and some funny moments.

I feel like Watts is very aware of how perfect Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is and he borrows often from that (in terms of themes, structure, spirit) to build this into its own slightly more mature yet still amusing Spidey sequel. This one gets a bit muddled at times (especially trying to play out the story in the second half) but it's still an earnest hat tip to SM2.
