“Come and See”
A title that earns its name. Inviting you if you dare to see a glimpse of the victims of war.
Absolutely horrific. War never changes
Watched this a second time and by god, it only gets more horrific. It truly makes you hateful of the Nazis, and anyone who could be hateful in this world. But then makes you question your own hatred within yourself and how revenge is surely not the answer. Instead I’m left with the dread of questioning why anyone could commit such hateful acts among others. Breathtaking, surreal, impactful, dreadful, and overall enlightening.
Ciro Guerra and Cristina Gallego are serious filmmakers who deserves way more attention. Both Birds of Passage and Embrace of The Serpent derive from a place of pure thoughtfulness. You can tell the filmmakers are struggling with the cultures that have been lost before them. Through this struggle we learn about these cultures and the deep complications of how these cultures have been tarnished by internal, and mostly external forces. Wow. Cannot recommend these films enough.
