3 parts CHILD’S PLAY. 2 parts BLACK MIRROR. 1 part watered-down SAW.
Finally a studio horror film this year that even attempts to make use of its R rating! You want blood? Ya got it! You want a Chucky film that thrives off of its horror roots again? Here it is! You want clips of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 embedded within? Oh…no? Well you have it anyway, and you better enjoy it because it’s the moment of the film that indicates to the viewer that the rest of the film will subsequently be violent as well.
One of my least favorite aspects of this film was Andy’s friends. I didn’t care much for their acting, nor did I feel like their characters were needed. I think the film would have been more effective if the only kid that it focused on had been Andy.
To be honest, I think the movie itself is probably a 3.5; HOWEVER, this was some of the most fun I’ve had watching a film in a theatre thus far in 2019, and in turn earns it an extra half of a star.
