On the Last Verse - A Small Film About Death

    ★★★

An odd one for sure. A kind of absurdist comedy centered around the filming of a documentary, mocking the over-dramatic genre. While occasionally funny, it's not nearly as funny nor manages to create the same atmosphere with characters. It's the weakest one in the "A Small Film About" anthology, even though the last one is most likely lost to the test of time. Still, absurdly hilarious and moderately entertaining.

An excellent screen-play and choreography showcase makes Blind Woman's Curse thoroughly enjoyable. Not only does it feature Yakuza sword-battles with dragon-tattoos with a revenge story embedded from a long-forgotten memory only remembered through a dream, but also awesome sets and costumes. Bloody brilliant and easily rewatchable!

Maybe the cocaine was the friends we made along the way. looking at the poster is about 10 times more fun than watching the movie itself.

I think, in a way, Godzilla vs. Biollante embodies everything great about the Kaiju and Godzilla genre. Godzilla isn't necessarily portrayed as pure evil, but rather a force created by the evil depths of man, something that the early films emphasized much more than the newer ones. There is a sort of mutual understanding by people as well as Godzilla that neither side is innocent and that they are effectively fighting themselves. A good-looking, rubbery suit accompanied by a fitting soundtrack puts this film right up there with its predecessor. Great stuff!
