  The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog 1927

  I found the story itself and its pacing struggled to keep my attention, but I found the breathtaking gothic imagery and cinematography both comforting and inspiring. 

  I highly recommend pairing this with Cradle of Filth’s Dusk and Her Embrace record. Simply sublime.

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  For whatever reason, perhaps due to the title, the reputation, and the famous "failure to communicate" quote, I was expecting a fun, lighthearted film. I wasn't expecting what I got, which was a rather grim exploration into torture, prisons, abuse of power dynamics, and the complete dismantling of a man's spirit, masculinity, and humanity.

  This was honestly a pleasant surprise to me, as I felt that the dissolution of Luke's character from cocky, nonconformist cool kid to simpering, broken husk…
