The Devil All the Time

The Devil All the Time ★★½

It plays like a Flannery O'Connor greatest hits collection with none of her acerbicness. Faith, violence, and family in rural America but The Devil All the Time wastes it whole runtime connecting all its storylines for little effect. The first 45 minutes are essentially a prologue after which it picks up some momentum. Unfortunately, the constant time jumping and just plain lousy narration pantomime greatness. The performances from Holland, Pattinson, and Keough provide some of the gravitas the film desperately wants to have.
