Being almost completely blind, losing his wife during filming with only one day of production put to halt, surviving a suicide attempt…and yet still being able to make one of the most grand scaled Japanese epics of all time should be an inspiring reminder to all filmmakers (or really anyone for that matter) that our seasons of hardship shape us…but they do not define us.
