This is unequivocally the best piece of animated media of all time. Completely perfect from start to finish, topped off by a god-tier soundtrack by Kensuke Ushio.

    Sublime.

EDIT: I spent two years making custom subtitles & typesetting for this show. Please check them out!

Gentle, mild, and lovingly whimsical throughout, The Taste of Tea is a wandering film about the directionlessness of life. The film's explorations and small stories of joy are told through its characters, giving a sense freedom where any semblance of plot seems to just barely slip through the cracks. Faintly surreal, comical, relaxing, and absolutely fantastic.

    wait this isn't splatoon

Edit to add my real review: Overall a really mediocre show – predictable story, dialogue that drags on, boringly gory, and with acting all over the place that ranges from great to unbelievably terrible – but absolutely fantastic production & costume design. I watched it pretty much for this reason alone. The aesthetics of this show are so on point. More worldbuilding please! They clearly wanted to leave things open-ended enough for a second season, but the only way it will be good is if it's essentially just Portal 2 but with this setting.

This is my all-time favorite musical. Touching, fun, creative, and clever, especially in its use of an all-ensemble cast and on-stage band, with an outstanding story and perfectly understated set and lighting. So happy to finally have a proshot version of the Broadway production.

First seen on the stage in October 2018 at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.

Way too violent/gory and sexual for my usual liking, and pretty rushed at times, but I think I just generally prefer stuff that's a bit less action-packed and with lower "stakes." I liked the ending, and the animation was good, naturally. The only reason this is rated so low is because Yuasa + Science SARU have set the bar so, so, so consistently high elsewhere. Of course, Kensuke Ushio hits it out of the park with the music once again.

+1 star for Tako the Devilcat and the episode 9 credits song/scene.
